Communication Letter 3
First Term 2015
03rd March 2015
Dear Parents,

Visual Screening
Lauren Slade from Meyersdal Optometrist will be visiting Genesis on Tuesday 10 March in order to perform visual screenings on the children. Please complete and return the reply slip by Friday 6 March if you wish to have your child’s vision screened.

Bully Workshop
On Thursday 5 March, Robyn Kotze from Manners 4 Minors is going to present a Bully Workshop to all the children at 10h30. Parents are welcome to attend. This issue will also be discussed at a Parent Social meeting in the near future.

The monthly social was held today. Lucy Vieira spoke about Caring for our Teeth to some parents for about 15 minutes and then the children joined in. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, Lucy and for the gifts for the children. There will be a social get together at 18h30 on Thursday 5 March. Jayne Clur will discuss “Helping your child towards independence”. Child Care facilities will be available at R20,00 per family. Refreshments will be served at 18h30, the discussion will start at 19h00. We plan to finish by 20h00. Remember to send us any advertisements that you would like included in the monthly Newsletter. Adverts will not be placed on the Web page but in the newsletter. The cost is R50.00 per month. Proceeds will be donated to the Blue Bucket Campaign.

Outreach 2015
Thank you so much for your contributions towards the Outreach. We are continuing to collect items on the Outreach.

Collecting Undergarments
Carrol Brody(Scott’s grandmother) has asked us to appeal for second hand undergarments for adults and children. Missionaries from Mozambique have told us that the impoverished people living there do not have the means to purchase undergarments and often go without wearing any. Please place you donations in the container in the foyer and Carrol will ensure that they are sent to the relevant people. Thank you for your assistance.

Genesis Educare Governing Body
The following people are the parents’ representatives on the Genesis Educare Governing Body, Vanessa Hausberger (Matthew’s mom), Daisy Tlhapane (Kgolosego’s mom) and Nicola van Loggerenberg (Mia’s mom). There is still a vacancy for a parent representative on the board, so if you are interested, please contact Clare. The next meeting is on the 21 April. If you have any matter which you would like to be discussed at the meeting please contact one of these parents.

Children’s Illnesses
If your child is ill, please do not send him/her to school. As you are aware, we are not permitted to administer any medication to a child at school.

Change of Clothing
Please will you ensure that there is a change of clothing in your child’s bag, even for the children in the older classes. Toilet accidents and other spills happen at all stages of a child’s development and a child is embarrassed and uncomfortable if they do not have a change of clothing. Thank you!

Sun Hats
Please ensure that your child brings a sun hat to school, as our rule at Genesis is

Each morning, at about 07h45, Rev Berryl Arends and some staff members spend a short time in prayer, if you would like to join us you are most welcome. If you are in need of prayer at any other time, Audrey Roodt, the church secretary, will be happy to pray with or for you. (011 432 2895/6 or 072 148 8769)

My School
Genesis receives approximately R550.00 – R600.00 per month from My School, so thank you to the parents who continue to use their My School cards. We encourage you to use the card when you shop at stores supporting the My School programme like Woolworths, Reggie’s etc. It really is a simple way of raising extra funds for the school. All you have to do is apply for a card and then ask the shop assistant at stores supporting the My School programme to swipe your card. Genesis then receives a small portion of the value of that purchase. The more people we have using a card with Genesis as their beneficiary the better so if you have any relatives who would like to have a card please contact My School directly. The toll free number is 0860 100 445.

Our First Parents Evening of the year will be held on Thursday 23 April from 16h30 - 19h00. Assessment will be handed out and there will be an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with his/her teacher. As always, if you have any concerns with regard to your child’s progress before that, please speak to your child’s teacher or to Clare.

School Holidays
We would like to remind you that school will close on the 25th March at the end of the first. term and school will reopen for the second term on the 13th April
